Think of it as having a financial coach who’s in your corner for the long run—someone who helps you stay confident and on track through every stage of life.
Flat Fee vs. AUM vs. Fee Only
Not all financial advice is priced the same way. Here’s how the most common models stack up.
Flat fee
A predictable cost for ongoing advice, no matter the size of your portfolio.
Assets Under Management
Fees are based on a percentage of your invested assets.
Fee only
Advisors are compensated solely through client fees, not commissions.
Both flat-fee and AUM advisors can be fiduciaries. The key is knowing exactly what you’re paying for and what you’re getting in return. Always review an advisor’s Form ADV and confirm the scope of their services.
Scope of services with a flat fee
A flat-fee engagement goes far beyond investment advice. Your plan may include:
Investments
Portfolio design, asset allocation, and rebalancing.
Equity Compensation
Guidance on ISOs, RSUs, and other stock-based benefits.
Retirement
Cash flow planning, Social Security strategy, and withdrawal sequencing.
Tax Strategy
Proactive planning to minimize liability.
Insurance
Risk management across life, disability, and long-term care.
Estate Planning
Coordination with attorneys to align your financial plan with your legacy goals.
Clients also benefit from a clear rhythm of deliverables: an initial plan, ongoing action items, scheduled check-ins, and unlimited email access whenever questions arise.
The Domain Money difference
With us, you don’t just get a plan—you get a partner.

Both options are possible. Domain and many other flat-fee planners focus solely on financial planning and don’t require you to move your assets to them. Others offer active portfolio management, often for an additional fee
Flat fees are typically based on the scope and complexity of your financial situation. They may be reviewed periodically (for example, annually) to account for changes in your income, net worth, or planning needs. At Domain we believe transparency is key, so you’ll always know when and why fees might change. It will typically only occur if we are adding features that clients are asking for.
Yes. Many firms allow you to mix models—choosing flat-fee planning for holistic guidance while paying separately for investment management. Domain doesn’t actively manage investments but we can partner with your AUM-based firm while still leading your overall financial plan.
